Together with Honda we're working hard to improve our reliability, and avoiding incurring grid penalties - especially on this track, where our car has the potential to perform more favourably - will be key to increasing our points tally, which we're all so determined to achieve. On the back of a successful tyre test with Pirelli, we hope to continue this momentum with a strong result in Budapest and follow it with useful mileage during the post-race in-season test, which we'll as a platform for further development in the second half of the season.feedback

May 27 2017 - Honda

For me, transparency is part of the racing culture, and anybody can challenge me – if somebody doesn't want me, that's different – but anybody can challenge me on the strengths of our chassis, and we know where we are.feedback

May 27 2017 - Honda

I've been involved in racing all my life, and with the other series I've been involved in, I've won races and championships. This is how I see racing. If I can't do that, then I'm going to do another job because I would have nothing to do here.feedback

May 27 2017 - Honda

My mission when I joined the team – and Honda had already been signed – was to bring a racing culture back into the team, which I believe I have done.feedback

May 27 2017 - Honda

The power unit has gone backward in terms of performance this season, but that is to go another step forward, and hopefully it will be a big step when it happens. It's going to come one day, definitely.feedback

May 20 2017

We have restructured and rebuilt the team and now it is working and operating very, very well. You can see the results: and our correlation rate is unbelievable. In Spain we brought a new front wing, new bodywork, new floor, and new rear wing and it is correlating 95%. And with this year's new regulations meaning there are big gains every time you work in the windtunnel or CFD, we see big potential still.feedback

May 20 2017

What we had on the car [in Spain] was the first part of the package and the second part will be in Monaco. It has allowed us and Fernando to step up into this midfield pack, and this is a fact not fantasy. It is not hope -- we know that on the less power sensitive tracks that we can be in the points. But we are not racing to be seventh. I told Mansour [Ojjeh, McLaren shareholder] that on Saturday.feedback

May 13 2017

In qualifying for his home grand prix here in Barcelona this afternoon, Fernando carved an utterly committed yet millimetre-perfect lap to end up P7 for tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix. Bravo amigo!feedback

May 13 2017 - Honda

Finally, well done to Honda for a small but useful update, which undoubtedly contributed to our improved form today.feedback

May 08 2017 - Honda

Like the majority of teams, we'll be taking this opportunity to introduce some new elements to the car, and, with the enthusiasm of the Spanish fans behind us, I hope we'll be able to complete some solid running and see an improvement in our reliability. It would be good to kick off the European races with some positive momentum, and what better place than in Spain with the full support of the passionate Spanish crowd.feedback

May 08 2017 - Honda

While the start of the year and the first round of fly-away races have not been easy for McLaren-Honda, we're looking forward to returning to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Spanish Grand Prix, marking the start of the European leg of the season. We don't anticipate a huge change of fortunes at this race, but getting Stoffel to the end of the grand prix in Sochi was a small reward for all the hard work being put in behind the scenes to address our reliability issues, and hopefully a sign of more positive things to come for the team.feedback

May 01 2017 - Honda

As for Fernando, I share his frustration. It's not acceptable to start the second consecutive grand prix with only one car, and we need to address this shortcoming immediately. He is naturally disappointed, but things will get better.feedback

May 01 2017 - Honda

You cannot hide behind a result like this. Finishing 14th is not why McLaren-Honda goes racing, and, believe me, we are working hard to make sure this level of performance doesn't last for long. That said, it's still extremely disappointing to run into reliability and performance issues during a race weekend -- we must work together to pull ourselves out of this position. Given the performance limitations he had today, Stoffel drove a very measured and efficient race, doing everything that was asked of him to look after his tyres and fuel.feedback

Apr 20 2017 - Honda

So I think it's going to be complicated for Honda to understand what's wrong, it could maybe be coming from some batch problems. I don't believe it is a car build problem but we can't find what's wrong... We can do two laps or we can do two days [worth of running]. It is a little bit less hot today, by the way. Maybe these five or six degrees are good enough, but I don't know. It's a bit strange.feedback

Apr 20 2017 - Honda

No, because it's very difficult to understand what's going on. We obviously changed the MGU-H four times and [Tuesday] morning, two laps, MGU-H gone, changed the engine, did 17 laps. [Wednesday] we had a small alert but we couldn't find anything wrong physically on the car and then since then we've run faultlessly, without any problems.feedback

Apr 20 2017 - Honda

We had good days last year as well I think. But today we are following the test plan and a lot of information has been understood and solutions tested on the car. So a very good test in terms of data and results.feedback

Apr 16 2017 - Bahrain

Super-competitive racer that he is, Stoffel was disappointed not to make it through to Q2, but we were very impressed by his performance here today. Given his acute lack of running yesterday, in fact, we reckon he totally nailed it. He'll start tomorrow's race from 17th place on the starting grid. The 2017 Bahrain Grand Prix will be a long, hot and difficult one for both our drivers, but that's the hand they've currently been dealt, and they'll play it as best they can, of that you can be absolutely certain.feedback

Apr 16 2017 - Bahrain

In Q1, Fernando got everything he could out of our chassis / power unit package, and would certainly have set a representative lap time in Q2 but for an MGU-H issue that prevented him from doing so. As a result, he'll start tomorrow's race from 15th place on the starting grid. Stoffel had a badly disrupted day yesterday, also as a result of MGU-H issues, but he recovered well today to post a Q1 lap just a couple of tenths off Fernando's best.feedback

Apr 15 2017 - Honda

On an extremely hot day here in Bahrain, the mercury nudging 40 degrees, Fernando got through his planned programme without interruption, garnering us a large amount of data to crunch this evening. For Stoffel, things were quite a lot more tricky. His car was beset with serial MGU-H issues, which we're now investigating with Honda, and as a result he was unable to do anything like as much running as we'd have liked him to.feedback

Apr 15 2017 - Bahrain

But both our drivers enjoy the Bahrain International Circuit, and have indeed won here before, Fernando in Formula 1 and Stoffel in GP2, and they'll do their best to qualify as well as they can tomorrow. Stoffel could obviously do with an uninterrupted FP3 in preparation for quali, so let's hope it works out that way for him.feedback

Apr 03 2017

Shanghai is known to be an unpredictable weekend for a number of reasons: it's tough on cars, tyres and power units and the weather is often precarious, but I can predict that we won't be as fortuitous with our pace, compared to our rivals, as we were in Australia.feedback

Mar 25 2017 - Honda

Yes, we have decided to keep Stoffel's car on Barcelona spec and give new spec to Fernando for strategic reasons. But treatment is equal before the rumours start.feedback

Mar 25 2017 - Honda

Rumours are rumours and I guess our performance, especially during our testing sessions, have created such rumours. Obviously we are looking at every option to recover and catch up because we are definitely not in the position that we expected to be and wanted to be.feedback

Mar 16 2017 - Honda

Yes, we'd be winning again.feedback

Mar 15 2017 - Honda

There are always a lot of stories about this. I think Fernando is being honest with us, just as we're being honest with him. He first wanted to see how the new car was. And how the new regulations are. And I think he likes the new F1. He wants to be competitive because he has talent to show the world and to himself. I don't want to give you too much information, because I know a lot of teams want that information, but he's the best. Without a doubt. He's the best because he is, clearly, but over and above that, it can be shown.feedback

Mar 15 2017 - Honda

And we need to be competitive to keep him happy. If we're competitive he'll be happy and if not he'll take his own decisions.feedback

Mar 08 2017

If you are not running fast enough, you do not put the right energy into the tyres, you don't put the right energy in the brakes of the car, and your ride height targets are different. There are a lot of consequences to run 15kph or 18kph slower in a straight line. But still, we make the most of the data we can gather just by running the car, and that is what we want to see.feedback
