If you take those teams away, you only need to finish sixth to be on the podium. We have finished sixth, Force India have finished sixth, Williams, Toro Rosso, McLaren, the only ones which didn't are Sauber. So it isn't so far off!feedback

Guenther Steiner has most recently been quoted in an article called Levelling F1 playing field 'very achievable' with right regulations. Guenther Steiner said, “Every team should have the chance to go on the podium, that would make it interesting. I believe that. That's what F1 should be aiming for in the next two or three years. Not every team in one season, of course, because then you're close to spec racing, but over a couple of seasons every team should have a realistic chance of scoring podiums with the right work and development. At the moment, the best job most teams do is for eighth, ninth, tenth, and that's out of way [of people's attention]”. Guenther Steiner has been quoted a grand total of 96 times in 39 articles.

Sep 26 2017 - Renault

We decided a long time ago that we would start focusing full-time on the 2018 car in August, and we started partially on our 2018 car in March. You have to plan it well because it's so complex, but everyone else is working on their 2018 car as well. If you were to develop something at this point for the current car and you put it into production, when it comes out it would be too late. If you develop something now, you won't get it to the racetrack for this year. We still want to achieve seventh, or the best result we can. We haven't given up.feedback

Sep 15 2017

There is trust, which is not to say people didn't trust each other before, it's just they didn't know each other, and there was uncertainty as to who was doing what job. Now people know who is doing what, and what they are supposed to be doing.feedback

Sep 15 2017

We stopped development of last year's car early, around May, so we could focus on this year's car. Once we went into the build phase, our people reacted very well, and we did a good job of heading into the second season prepared.feedback

Sep 15 2017

A lot of things have happened over time, one of those being the way the team has jelled, our processes are better, the collaboration, the interaction, how people work together is optimized because we know each other.feedback

Sep 15 2017

If you want to get to the top you have to do better. If you stay the same, then eventually you will go backwards.feedback

Sep 15 2017

When we had a drama it took time to sort things. Now, when there are tense moments in the garage, we know exactly what to do, everybody stays calm, there is no loss of energy.feedback

Sep 15 2017

Everybody predicted for us a horrible second season because it has happened to a lot of teams in the past. We were aware of this and so we set out not to have a horrible second year.feedback

Sep 08 2017

We made some plans of how to do things and they didn't work out. We should have been more aggressive. From last year's testing we knew where we were going and then we had the delay because the supplier we wanted to work with were too busy because everyone changed to the new material because of the new regulation change. For sure they served their existing clients better than us, coming new and still needing to do testing, so we should have been more aggressive on the approach.feedback

Sep 08 2017

We need to have a decision so we are well prepared for next year so we don't have this issue anymore. At the moment we are putting too much effort and wasting too much energy to try to sort something out which should be a non-issue.feedback

Sep 08 2017

It's still development, I wouldn't say confidently 'oh, in three races we will have the solution'. We are working to it and it's looks like, but if we knew we would have put it on already. So we are getting closer but we have not found the solution yet.feedback

Sep 08 2017

I wouldn't say easily, but they would have come quicker to a solution, I cannot deny that. Maybe we should have reacted earlier, we waited a little bit and we were hoping [it could be solved]. I would say a bigger team, with the issues we have, they would have struggled as well but it would have taken them less to sort it out. We are a small team and we rely a lot... this part is Ferrari, and our resources are not up to the level of other teams so we had to bring our in-house resources up to deal with the problem, and that was a bit of a delay.feedback

Sep 05 2017

There's something to look into it. But change for the sake of changing is not worthwhile. You can have an engine failure, there must be a penalty to change. At the moment, it's nothing too wrong with it. At least, it works, people get slowly used to it. Why change it? If you change it, we need to change to something really better.feedback

Sep 05 2017

We know the rules. Is it looking good or not? The penalties are given a reason because people are doing a bad job. It's not like they were penalised, they knew before and if they don't do a good job, or good enough, then that's what they get.feedback

Sep 05 2017

If you make strategic decisions wrong, you are penalised as well. It sounds maybe funny but you live by your choices. If you go for certain reasons to a manufacturers because you like their price, or like this then you're responsible for it, it comes with it. If you are penalised it, for example the works team has no problems and you have all the problems then it starts to get iffy, but I don't think it's happening for the moment.feedback

Sep 05 2017

Look at Verstappen, or Ricciardo, 35 [positions] and he still finished fourth... The big teams they can make it up and if we reduce the grid penalties, there's no point to do it. The again we would just spend more money because don't care about the grid penalties as we would make it up.feedback

Aug 24 2017

Just move on and we learned a lot about what you can do in Turn 1 and I think Kevin is ready for it, and we go racing again. It was fun, but fun has a sell-by date. If you keep on going on about the same thing it gets old.feedback

Aug 24 2017

It's been handled fine. At some stage there is a cut-off. It's getting old, no-one wants to hear old news. Nothing more needs to be said, I don't think we need to have a hugging session between Nico and Kevin! I think we have our standpoint and he has his own, I don't think we need to get into 'he said', he said.feedback

Aug 24 2017

I'm a believer that you cannot make up theatre. If it is fake, it doesn't have the effect. This was all emotions and I stand fully behind things like this, I would never say 'you shouldn't say this'. If you try to make it up it doesn't work. We know you can try to be funny, but this came out of the blue. We were like, What...what did you just say!' But if you try to do it every race it gets old pretty quick.feedback

Aug 18 2017

I think aerodynamically they are better than us, otherwise they wouldn't be there. If you don't have the downforce level like them you just struggle more with the tyres, you're too cold or you're too hot. If you have good downforce level... they were very fast in Monte Carlo, on the slow circuits they are very fast and we are not, so that shows big differences in aero.feedback

Aug 13 2017

I don't think so. We look after ourselves and our relationship with Ferrari. If they have a relationship with somebody else... We are not asked anyway what we think about it or what they should be doing. I think our relationship is strong. I think it will continue as good as it is now. I think without them we wouldn't be where we are right now.feedback

Aug 13 2017

Like when Minardi was around, Minardi was maybe happy to be last, that was their duty to bring drivers up. Maybe they were not happy to be last but they could live with it as it was their business model: to develop drivers was their business models. It's like when Ricciardo drove the HRT, you knew he was not going to do anything but it gave him experience and that's not there anymore. It's maybe a good thing we don't have these teams [running at the back], but maybe a bad thing.feedback

Aug 13 2017

I think they are both good guys, with very good potential. How they get into a seat is difficult, Formula One in that respect is very difficult. The difficulty is they need to be in the right time at the right place, there is nothing else you can do for it, at the moment you cannot even buy a cockpit at the moment.feedback

Jul 30 2017

It's the right way to say it. Why would he say anything else? He got the penalty, if [Nico] thinks he needs more he needs to look at his Turn 1 incident.feedback

Jul 30 2017

I sum it up like: Nico was the guy who destroyed Romain's race, and then we get a penalty with Kevin. Kevin did the right thing and stood his point there, in my opinion. Why would he lift? It's a tough battle.feedback

Jul 26 2017

We made one step toward understanding the new brakes. There is a second step because in Silverstone there is no hard braking. It's one of the circuits where you use the brakes less than in all of the other circuits. Hungary is the opposite. You use the brakes quite a bit and you have no time to cool them down because there are no big straights. You need to get your brake package in the right window so you're not putting too much energy into the tyres from the brakes.feedback

Jul 10 2017

He [Magnussen] was going to finish ninth or 10th, we were right on it so it wasn't his lucky day. The car was overheating early on, and if everything had been normal then we could have attacked more -- but we had to let it go a little bit because this piece of Styrofoam had got caught in the cooling ducts after the first lap. What else can you do? We were best of the rest, and that is what it is. Fantastic from Romain -- he drove a calm, solid race and it was our best result of the year. We'll have some lows after this, but we'll enjoy what we've got and keep on digging for more points.feedback

Jul 10 2017 - Oil

It looks like the pipe was touching on a washer and after a while they bump [together] and it shaved the pipe. It was a new installation with a new rear wing which we put on Baku, which was why it didn't happen before. We will fix it.feedback

Jul 08 2017

We are looking into data to see if anything to why the suspension broke. It obviously is going over the kerbs it's broke but he did not do anything different to the other car, nothing different. Maybe just one of those things, the suspension, the parts which were on it were almost new. The parts, maybe it just collapsed I don't know. We are looking into it to see if we can find something suspicious but up to now we haven't.feedback

Jul 05 2017

It's not that Kevin didn't have the problems with the brakes. With his driving style -- for him it's easier to drive around it, or make it less evident. He was not happy with the brakes in FP2. For the race, he had to lift and coast, as well, because we had some issues. With Romain's driving style, the brakes need to be perfect, or as close to perfect as can be. At the moment, we are not there.feedback

Jul 05 2017

The cars as a setup -- suspension-wise and aero-wise -- are pretty similar all the time. But their driving styles -- how they go into a corner -- that's a little bit different. In the end the cars are not far apart. The drivers work with their race engineer, but the cars, in principle, are very similar.feedback

Jun 05 2017

You can't always get in there all the time - even the big teams like Force India, which is fourth in the championship, didn't get into the points in Monte Carlo with either car, and that's because the midfield is so tight. I think we can achieve it, because if you're there or about, it will happen.feedback

Jun 05 2017 - Russia

It's very difficult. There is so little room between hero and zero. If you're not in the points it looks really bad, but six spots are already taken, typically. We are fighting for four spots. It is very difficult to achieve, but we've achieved it four times now this year.feedback

Jun 05 2017

You see the points difference between Toro Rosso, which is fifth and us in seventh. They've got 29 points and we've got 14. They have double the points, but 14 is not insurmountable. You get two good results and you're there. That shows how competitive it is in the midfield. So for us to be in the points four times out of six races is some measure of success.feedback

May 29 2017

We will aim for it but I don't think it's achievable everywhere yet because there is other people as well -- there was no Force India [in Monaco]. But we can aim for it, if we achieve it or not. We have got a clear target and that is what we want to do. I think if we try everywhere, some places we will achieve it, somewhere else there will be someone better.feedback

May 29 2017

It's for sure a historic day and you always want to do better, that's life. A first time with two cars in the points is something we wanted to achieve this year. We achieved it in race six. We wanted it before then, but race six is not too bad. We never lost our cool, we always stayed on top of it. We got unlucky, but then we got lucky again at the end, so we're fine.feedback

May 15 2017

I think it was just a racing accident. I think Kevin just tried. When Ricciardo passed him on the blue flag, Kevin had to lift at the braking and lost a bit of momentum. Kvyat got him and Kevin just wanted to go past him again. I think it is just a racing accident. These things happen.feedback

May 15 2017

Yeah, but that's what you have to say!feedback

May 11 2017

As Haas F1 Team continues to mature, we must look toward our future and develop potential talent. Arjun was successful in karting and has transitioned well to various Formula series and now GP3. We'll keep a keen eye on his progress this year.feedback

May 09 2017

We're very happy to have Santino back with us and look forward to his continuing development in GP3.feedback

May 08 2017

Everybody needs to understand that this is a very sophisticated brake system -- it is not easy to fix. The obvious question, and rightly people ask, is that it cannot be this difficult to fix a brake. It actually is. It isn't easy. This is because they're highly complicated technologies, they're highly advanced.feedback

May 08 2017 - Carbon

We started off with CI [Carbon Industrie] brakes in Sochi. We weren't getting enough cooling for them, and if you don't cool them enough, you overheat the brake itself and the pedal gets long. Also, the wear is very high. We looked into it to see if we could survive a race, but we realised we could not. Therefore, the decision was taken to go back onto the Brembo. As it stands now, we will race Brembo in Barcelona.feedback

May 01 2017

Racing accident -- I didn't think we did anything wrong. The rest is not for me to decide. As long as we don't get any penalty, I'm fine! What can I do? I'm not the judge to judge about other people, so I'm OK with it. I've got opinions but they don't count anyway. So long as I don't get any penalty I'm fine with it.feedback

May 01 2017

We know what we can do. It's not like sometimes you have to have these c----- weekends and you just need to get ready again for the next one. It's nothing you can do about it. It's water under the bridge, you cannot change it any more. What you learn, you learn always from any situation, and we try to be better next time, and I think we can.feedback

May 01 2017

It's always a waste. A five-second penalty put us where we were. Before the five second penalty, we were 10th, so you never know. Sure, it didn't help the case to make points, but what can you do. It was a pretty c--- weekend for us here. One drama after the other one. You cannot appeal it anyway. But from what I understand, he didn't go through there, and if that is set before, what can you do, you have to live with it. It is what it is. I'm not even trying to argue it because we were told and we didn't do it. You live by your choices.feedback

May 01 2017

I think I have to agree because it was said before what you have to do if you go wide and then you have to go through that. I didn't see it because I was in the stewards with Romain.feedback

Apr 29 2017 - Bahrain

Yeah, we need to continue to develop. We need to be on what we had in Bahrain, this is fine-tuning in the end, and it's nothing unexpected.feedback

Apr 29 2017 - Bahrain

When you change a big system like this you can always have this, it's testing. We did some testing in Bahrain but it's a different story here. We knew they were running a bit hot in Bahrain and we knew we would get to it. But I'm not surprised of the result from today, I'm not like 'woah, I didn't think about that', it was something we could expect. We are developing in parallel wind tunnel more cooling options for the brakes, so we will be fine, but it takes a little bit of time to get used to them.feedback

Apr 29 2017 - Bahrain

I think there are pluses and minuses. We are running a little bit hot, you saw the brake dust coming out after Bahrain and we are working to have more cooling options.feedback

Apr 20 2017

People who want to start a team should look at it. It seems to be working. The last three teams which entered are gone, it didn't work so it's proof that more of the same will not work.feedback

Apr 20 2017

If all our fans go away what have the big teams achieved? If you outspend everybody but nobody watches any more it's no good for their business. Nobody will be making money if all the fans go – all of us will be broke.feedback

Apr 15 2017 - Bahrain

It was a good day for us. For sure, it was our best Friday this year. We completed our programs in FP1 and FP2. The car seems to be competitive, as well, for points. Now we'll go look and see what we can do better and come back tomorrow.feedback

Apr 10 2017 - Renault

He struggled a little bit in Australia but he did well here, so step by step and we ended up in the points on merit, not from luck or anything. He didn't have a good start but then [he] made it up. They both did a good job and for Kevin to get in the top ten in the second race with us, it proves a point I guess for both sides. The earlier you can do, the less you can go downhill. For sure we have to repeat it like everything, as we know, you always remember the last race you do here in this game, but it's important for him.feedback

Apr 10 2017 - Renault

Especially after last year and the second half of the season, he got a lot of criticism for what he's not doing so I think he proved a point with the result. I think he drove a very good race. There was nothing wrong with it, it was calm, no mistakes, it was as good as you can do.feedback

Apr 09 2017

I think it was a little bit special because people were on different tyres, that made it possible. It was pretty cool the overtaking. They were nice manoeuvres, they were not just blasting by. I think if people use different strategies it is possible.feedback

Apr 09 2017

On the same tyre I think because Romain struggled a bit behind Palmer... But then again with a different tyre you can take a different line and you can do it. The thing is we lost a lot of time behind them. It is possible. Today it was quite interesting what happened out there. I think all over the place, so after Australia, Formula One gets interesting again.feedback

Apr 01 2017

We are cautiously optimistic. We need to still prove that our performance wasn't a one-off. It's very tight in the midfield. On a good day, you could be on top, but on a bad day, you could be at the back.feedback

Apr 01 2017

The other midfield teams have shown that this can happen. I think we surprised a little bit with our performance, especially Romain qualifying sixth with his lap, which was four-tenths faster than (Felipe) Massa's. That's pretty good.feedback

Apr 01 2017

With the engine, there is not just one area that is better, it's the whole package that has improved from last year. It's now as competitive as a Mercedes engine, if not better. Ferrari won in Australia, but everybody is developing and trying to get better. It's always going to be a development race. They've made a good step, and without that help from Ferrari, we wouldn't be where we are.feedback

Mar 26 2017

I think we can do that this year, but again we also need to be reliably because you can have the quickest car but if you break down you never get a point. So we will try hard in Shanghai, so let's see. At the moment I can't wait to get there to forget this one.feedback

Mar 26 2017

I think it can happen with the car, I think the car is pretty good. We just need to get it always in the working range. I think the car is where it showed it was here. The cat is out of the bag I would say, we know where everybody is. You can mess up a weekend with set-up but in general the car is there, we have got a good upgrade plan, so therefore I feel positive.feedback

Mar 26 2017

We know the car is good, they are both positive, especially Romain was very positive. He lost a place to Massa at the start but he wasn't too concerned about it, he saw the speed and everybody could see we could keep the Toro Rossos easily away.feedback

Mar 26 2017

So the car has got speed, but it's how many opportunities like this will you get? Because with such a tight midfield it's a lost opportunity. So it's disappointing, but it could be worse, we could be slow. I think it's a lot easier to find reliability than speed. It seems that we have got the speed, we need to find it everywhere on each track to make sure we are more consistent than last year.feedback

Mar 26 2017

It's just I am annoyed with the missed opportunity, it was like it was almost too easy to grab it. To finish seventh or fifth was there, we just had to get it to the end without the problem because I don't know how many laps we did but we could pull away and we were not like on the edge.feedback

Mar 25 2017

I'm disappointed where we are with Kevin, but I am very relaxed about the mistake. There is a long race tomorrow and he is known to be a good racer. If he can get a good off the grip then everything is out there.feedback

Mar 25 2017

To be four tenths in front of the Williams is amazing. We knew that the midfield is tight but I think the team did a good job and [Romain] did an outstanding lap. Next week we could end up 14th and 15th, it is so close.feedback

Mar 25 2017

One of the things they need credit for so far is putting Ross in place because there is nobody out there who is a better choice than him. That was a really good decision, and hopefully, they will make a lot more like this.feedback

Mar 19 2017

I wouldn't say that normally the second season is harder than the first one, but a lot of people predicted that we would have big issues [this year].feedback

Mar 10 2017

Between the top three and the other ones it is between one second and 1.5 seconds, I think. There is no surprise that Mercedes and Ferrari and Red Bull came out better than everybody else. They have more resources to do more testing and that is what it is.feedback

Mar 09 2017

I think one and a half second between the top three and the other ones. It's big. It's between one and one and a half seconds I think.feedback

Mar 09 2017

It's aero, it's aero. The big teams will always have more resources to do it and this is to be expected. I think there is no surprise that Ferrari and Mercedes and Red Bull can come out better than anyone else. They've got more resources to do more testing and that is what it is.feedback

Mar 02 2017 - Carbon

We had good brakes on Tuesday and we had good brakes today but yesterday that was one of our problems. We weren't consistent with the brakes so we had to put another set of brakes on. I would say it throws the driver off his focus when the brake doesn't work consistent, he's like 'oh is it coming back?feedback

Mar 02 2017 - Carbon

No with the other one we haven't tested enough yet to know whether they are consistent or not. We had a test last year but we haven't come to a conclusion and we still need to test them for this year because we were late with the sign off, so they have to use new brakes because the discs are thicker, so we haven't got them yet.feedback

Mar 02 2017 - Carbon

We are not completely done with the brakes. With the brakes our biggest problem is our inconsistency, again, we have sometimes a brake which we are really happy with and the drivers are really happy with and then we get a set which we are not happy with. You lose a lot of time because it's not only to change it, the driver loses the confidence and then when you put the next one on he needs to get into a state again that he's confident with what he gets. So we are not done with it yet.feedback

Mar 02 2017 - Carbon

We just don't know exactly when. Or which race we put them on.feedback

Mar 02 2017

We have got a clear understanding of what we can't do and we never did that. We cannot worry about it, we are too small to do this. I don't know what the other ones have got and I think this is one of the biggest questions. If everyone has to declare to the FIA everyone has to say if it is or isn't legal. So I think on that basis we are happy with how the regulation is written now.feedback

Mar 02 2017

It would be a real shame if someone opposed what the FIA clarified now, to go out there and risk a protest. I think it's down to the people who want to take the risk, it's not to the people who go and protest - they've got the right to protest.feedback

Mar 02 2017

It's the people who try to take an advantage and then accept the protest, it's down to them. You should not have this, that's my opinion, it's been clarified and everybody should be really clear what it is. We shouldn't go in to the first race and have someone protesting because someone didn't do what the FIA clarified.feedback

Nov 10 2016 - Renault

Hopefully we will announce something this weekend. There are still a few things we have to talk with people about and then we will announce who our (second) driver will be.feedback
