May 05 2017

We felt it was better for him to keep him off the ice in the (third) period. He could've come back, but we just wanted to make sure. He has a lower-body injury.feedback

May 03 2017

There's no X's and O's in this game for me. The game was lost in the first period. They wanted it so badly, and we didn't match that, period.feedback

May 03 2017

The game was lost in the first period. They were ready, they were hungry, they were desperate and we didn't match that at all, that's it.feedback

I like that he's a guy with emotion; he's got torque. He was all about the team from Day 1. That's where the maturity comes into play. Whenever you talk to him about an award or points, it's always deflected. I thought his leadership this year was a very clairvoyant one; he knew what to do and when.feedback

Apr 22 2017

He manages the game like an adult, like a man. Great vision, great poise, but he's always in the right place defensively too, which puts him ahead of a lot of young guys – they rarely have both sides of the ice figured out, especially at that age.feedback

I always say that you make your money during the season, but you make your reputation in the playoffs, and right now he's showing everybody that he's a gamer.feedback

We look at it because sometimes we're not seeing everything that's going on on the ice. It's good also for feedback with our players and, yeah, it's good for challenges and all that. I think it's been important since the beginning of the year. It helps is also between periods because instead of looking at 12 different things between periods, we might have to look at five or six, so it's quicker for us to get back to our players and tell them about adjustments because sometimes we already know a few adjustments and a lot of times we'll address it right on the bench.feedback

I saw (the players) eyes today and they had fire in their eyes today. I have a lot of respect for them coming out and playing hard.feedback

He was a pest then and he's still a pest, but he's a really good player. When you look at a guy like that, that height [5-foot-9], I always have a lot of respect for those guys. I've coached Marty St. Louis, who was a smaller guy, and Brad. You can't help but respect what those guys have done with their size, and it's inspiring for young kids to be able to dream when they're not big and 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-3. He's evolved. He's matured through his career. Right now he's benefiting from all the work and the experience that he's gotten over the years, whether it's here or with Hockey Canada.feedback

Oct 12 2016

I told everybody and I saw it firsthand last year so I'm not surprised. He's the total package. He played against men last year and he's playing against men now, so I'm not surprised.feedback
