I went down there, and I was like, Oh s–. I was f–– created in a laboratory to create this type of movie: I love f–– raccoons, I love space operas, and I love comic books.' It was what I was made to do. I have never actually f–– a raccoon. I swear.feedback

I'm like, I want to be relevant. You know? The only thing people are going to see are Marvel movies, and nobody's gonna give me a Marvel movie.' And it was two weeks later that I got the call that 'Hey, come in and talk to us about doing Guardians.”.

Apr 20 2017 - Japan

I made a movie about outcasts for outcasts and it's very touching for me that people all over the world, whether here or in Japan or in Russia or in England have been touched by the movie.feedback

You'll see. But it's just one of my favorite funk songs.feedback

It was one of the first songs that I picked out to try to use in the movie and it has to do a little bit with the origin of Ego.feedback

It was so weird. For a minute I wasn't sure if I was being tricked because I had never heard the song. I wasn't sure if was a modern band doing a retro version of a song or if it was actually an old song.feedback

They were songs that people had heard, , but probably didn't know the name of. One of the most exciting things, was knowing I would be making bands that may have been forgotten suddenly be a topic of conversation.feedback

Apr 19 2017

It's the perfect song to start the movie, because it's really joyous, but there's a really dark underpinning to it.feedback

She's a music lover, but she's completely not elitist. If it's something that's thought of as goofy and pop, she likes it. If it's cool or funk, she likes it. She just likes hooks and melodies. She's a very quirky, young girl who fell in love with, you know, as it ends up, an alien. And falling in love with an alien is right up there in Meredith Quill's alley. She's an oddball, like her son.feedback

I think we made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Lake Shore Drive' is a song that I grew up with. It was a regional hit and only in, like, St. Louis and Chicago, so a lot of people don't know it, but it is truly one of the catchiest songs ever written, and I knew that there were a thousand places that I could've used it easily in Guardians because it's so easy to fit into the movie.feedback

Much of what's happened in the MCU for the past ten or so years has been leading, in a big way, to the Avengers' Infinity War. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will happen after all that. It will conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond. I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.feedback

Yes, I'm returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the end, my love for Rocket, Groot, Gamora, Star-Lord, Yondu, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula – and some of the other forthcoming heroes – goes deeper than you guys can possibly imagine, and I feel they have more adventures to go on and things to learn about themselves and the wonderful and sometimes terrifying universe we all inhabit.feedback

There is a history in Hollywood of haphazard endings to trilogies, and I didn't want to become a part of that dishonorable tradition of pretending the third one doesn't exist. I couldn't do it for the money, and I couldn't do it because it was what other people wanted me to do. I needed to do it because it was what I needed to do. I have never made choices in my career based on anything other than passion and love for the stories and characters, and I didn't want to start now.feedback
