Last quote by Jermain Defoe

Everybody wants to play and I think the manager knows I'm ready now. It's disappointing because we have so much quality in the dressing room and we all feel like there is a lot more to come from us. Tuesday's an opportunity for me because I missed a few pre-season games, plus came back late because of the internationals. I feel sharp though. I've worked hard all week and in pre-season, and I've always said you get your fitness in the games anyway.feedback

The way he looked at me that day, the smile: it's such a good feeling that you could bring something to his life. Everywhere I go people ask after him. [Sunderland manager] David Moyes took us to New York mid-season and people were coming up to me saying 'how's Bradley?' Part of you feels it's good that we have helped raise awareness of the illness. I'm trying to turn vegan, which is a funny one because when I go to my mum's house she's got every meat you can imagine out on the table. I'm just trying to tick every box, so I can continue playing. Mar 20 2017

It feels different coming in as one of the senior lads. The first time round, coming in as a youngster, you are like a sponge, you try and take everything from the manager and the players. This time around it is a bit strange. I am a senior lad and I want to try and help the younger lads, but even some of them have experience under their belts, which is important.feedback

Mar 20 2017

There were times where I did think 'maybe I am not going to get in'. But that did not stop me from getting my head down, working hard and just hoping that one day I would get an opportunity to represent my country again. I never gave up. Mar 20 2017 - World Cup

You have to be realistic; to get into any squad is based on merit and to do that you have to be playing at the top level. When I went to Toronto in 2014 I missed out on the World Cup. When I got the call it was hard to accept but you had to be realistic and think the boys I was competing against were playing the Premier League and Europe and that's why I missed out. So I would say you would need to be playing in the Premier League but we'll see what happens.feedback

It was funny because on the iPhones,it pops up on the screen, but you don't see the full message. I just saw the name. I thought, Gareth? I don't know a Gareth, who's this?', so I put my phone down. Partly it's how he wants to play, but mainly it's, is he comfortable trying to improve me?' Some managers just let senior players get on with it. I don't want that. I want to be challenged.feedback

I want to be in Russia, 100 per cent. If I continue scoring goals, then I believe the manager will take me. But obviously I've got to keep scoring. When you're scoring goals, let's be honest, clubs are going to want you. I've had a lot of interest. But I've got an idea where I'm going. When it comes to July everyone will know. I know where I want to go to kick on again. I don't want to stand still.feedback

Mar 06 2017

I'm like a sponge, I think about stuff. I think, if I was a manager how would I play this?' I think of the bosses I've had, I like what he does, I'll do it like him or I definitely won't do it like that. I'm thinking like that more and more.feedback

Mar 05 2017

I was in the England squad for like 10 years, and probably most of that time I was at Tottenham scoring goals. There were times where I wasn't even playing but I was still in the squad because of the goals I scored before. So I don't know. I've always been a positive person, but there comes a time where you think: 'Is it really going to happen? All I can do is keep playing well. The English fans - I read some nice stuff on social media and in the press too. So for me it's a nice feeling that people want me back into the squad. At the end of the day it's up to the manager so we'll see.feedback
