His game looks the same as it did when he was a 19-year-old. He doesn't run around and bounce quite as much. But that's probably an age thing.feedback

Apr 07 2017

I wasn't too disappointed. I was just trying to not make any silly mistakes on 10, 11, 12, and play my way out of the tournament.feedback

Apr 03 2017

I'm just glad I played a practice round yesterday.feedback

It was a surprise second because it looked for all the world that Jordan Spieth was going to win the tournament. Standing on the 16th tee, suddenly myself and Danny had a chance but it's not like you worry or think 'Oh shit.' You know certain things can happen at Augusta but you don't expect someone who is so far ahead to hit a couple in Rae's Creek. I thought maybe Jordan had made a double bogey at the time but to see it was quadruple was a bit of a shock; compounded by the fact I had just chipped in for an eagle at the 15th.feedback

It was a good result. I had played poorly in the first part of the year. It is actually night and day this year to the way I was going into the Masters last year. I don't listen to it [the criticism]. Some people are full of shit. I only know about this stuff because some people tell me about it. I pay no attention to it, it doesn't bother me at all. Some people are always going to think what they think regardless of the facts.feedback

I have been on seven winning teams and three losing teams so my average is pretty good. I have won a lot of points and sooner or later the Americans were going to put together a good performance to beat us. It was a wide points winning margin but it was a lot closer than that when you look back at it.feedback

It does seem a bit daft. This decade alone, England has had two world No 1s, at least half a dozen top-10 players and two major winners. At the Masters last year, we had first and second, in Danny [Willett] and myself. Tell me, which top-class sport is England better in than golf.feedback

And look at all the youngsters coming through. We have Danny, of course, and then there are the likes of [Tyrrell] Hatton, [Matt] Fitzpatrick, [Chris] Wood, [Andy] Sullivan, [Tommy] Fleetwood… the list goes on.feedback

Mar 29 2017

It's great preparation for a great week. I haven't looked as forward to a fortnight of golf as much as this for a few years.feedback

Someone says I'm 100-1 for Augusta and, although I don't want to encourage anyone to bet, I'd say that's a good price. In the last seven Masters, I've only finished outside the top 12 once. I know my way around that course. They do such a good job here in replicating the conditions we'll get at the Masters. If I didn't play here I'd be shocked when I experienced the pace of the greens at Augusta.feedback

Eleven of us are there and that's even without Nick taking up his invite [as a former champion] – amazing isn't it? No, I don't think England knows what it has with golf and with the quality of professionals we are producing. Eleven in the Masters and there are fewer than 100 who have qualified? That's an incredible achievement and should be shouted about from the rooftops. Yet, strangely, it isn't.feedback

It's funny, you say I was the only Englishman in the top 100 16 years ago, but golf seemed to get more media coverage back home then! I don't know the reason for that. I suppose it's do with it not being on terrestrial TV any more. I don't want to name any other sports specifically, but if they get more than one or two in the world's top 50 then the reaction is mad. Yeah, it is nice to be almost 44 and to still be up there, competing alongside them. I suppose I am like the Daddy of them all!feedback

The distance control up here out of the rough at this altitude to some of these greens is very challenging. So with a little bit of heat as well, the ball's going ridiculous distances. So it's not easy out there to get the ball close, and if you do start to get it on the green but a long way from the flag, it's not the easiest two-putt because these greens are quite tricky.feedback

Mar 03 2017

I played great. It's a tricky golf course. It's hard work playing at altitude. Occasionally one just goes ballistic and you end up in a nightmare of a spot.feedback

Mar 02 2017

It's a great golf course. You've got to be really patient. It's a pleasure to play a golf course where your caddie doesn't hand you the driver walking off the previous green. You've got to put in a bit of thought on this golf course.feedback

Oct 18 2016

We've not had a tournament up there for a few years now, even north of Birmingham, so it will be great to take the British Masters to Newcastle.feedback
