You've got to be aggressive. Look, we all know how good he is. Everybody knows he can take you deep at any moment. But you can't really worry about that. You got to have the belief that you can make pitches and get him out. Today worked out in my favor, but I just know facing him, you make a mistake, that ball can go a long way.feedback

Aug 19 2017

This is my own fault. Look, I was feeling good after this last start and I know it's an excuse, and I hate excuses, but I forgot to do the neck exercises during this go around. And I know it sounds stupid, but it happened and for whatever reason this came back. Just need to stay on top of my program. Like I said, I've dealt with this in the past. I know how to treat this. I know if you do everything, stay strong, this goes away. So stay on the anti-inflammatories, do your exercises, and this is a nonissue.feedback

Aug 19 2017

I know what the cause of this is and I know it's not anything serious. Look, last time I went through this, the next time I was out there, I was at 114 pitches. I fully intend for that to be the case again on Friday.feedback

Aug 02 2017

I've had this pop up before. Use different pillows sometimes, it can just put a crick in your neck. And that's what happened. You do anything you can before a game to try to loosen it up. Went out there and warmed up OK, at least to start up the game. Kind of hurt myself turning left. First inning I could tell I wasn't right. Hard for me to pick up the target.feedback

Jul 22 2017

I had four pitches today. I was using them. They beat me. I just couldn't get the ball exactly where I wanted it. When you do that against this type of ballclub and these types of hitters, they are really good and they make you pay.feedback

Jul 12 2017

Jul 11 2017

Competition raises everybody's level. So the hitters have had to become better hitters, and the only way they're doing damage against some of these guys is to keep swinging for the fences, keep going for the home run. The pitching's so good now that you just don't see six consecutive singles anymore.feedback

Jul 11 2017

I think the hitters have correctly identified that hey, if we swing for the fence a little bit more often, we can actually score more.feedback

Jul 10 2017

The way I've been looking at it, ball is flying for whatever reason. I really don't care. I've given up a lot of homers over the past year and a half.feedback

Jul 10 2017

I love the way Chris goes out and competes. ... He'll do anything to win. He makes big-time pitches all the way – even if he takes 120 pitches. By far he's been one of my favorite players, pitchers to watch. It's even better to compete against him.feedback

Jul 10 2017

I've seen it from afar, the year he's had – obviously been the best hitter in the American League. I think they will all agree with that. I enjoy facing the best.feedback

A couple of sliders got away from me. That's what cost me. That's what lost the game.feedback

Jun 16 2017

You've got to be on your game every single game. Your pitches have to be sharp every time out. That speaks to consistency. That I'm on this roll getting guys to strike out speaks to where my stuff is and being in sync with [catcher Matt] Wieters as well.feedback

Jun 16 2017

Apr 07 2017

That's what so weird, I was strong, actually when you pitch in cold weather games it's hard to use a lot of your reserves. So I was very strong considering that this was my first outing at 100 pitches I felt great there in the 7th.feedback

Apr 07 2017

I was able to locate the fastball to both sides of the plate. Thought that was good, but there's some things I can improve on. I need to throw more first pitch strikes, those numbers were down. Those two walks right there at the end, that's just going to eat at you, that 7th inning.feedback

Apr 07 2017

I'm good to throw 100 pitches. ... That's what's so exciting about where I was at, to where I am now.feedback

Apr 07 2017

Apr 07 2017

What's one thin layer of [sleeve] gonna do? If it's in the 30s, you might see the sleeves. But I was fine today. I never once felt cold.feedback

The [bleeping] brown eye. That's my pitching eye.feedback

Apr 01 2017

They grinded out some ABs and those are professional at-bats, up and down the lineup. Plus the DH, no pitcher so they grind out everything. So that's as good a start as you're going to face in spring training to get you ready for spring training. So I feel like I took a step forward today in terms of getting back in the zone.feedback

Mar 30 2017

Of course there is [a window]. That's sports now. . . . We're in a win-now situation, and that's where you want to be. . . . but if you do a little counting around in the clubhouse, we should be able to be competitive for a few more years as well. You don't see any reason for a drop-off.feedback

Mar 27 2017

You got the whole stadium standing and cheering for that. That's always going to fire you up. You always want to get him out.feedback

Mar 22 2017

Coming out here and throwing 70 pitches, now we're looking at 85, 90 pitch count next time out, so that's good news, that I'm basically on pace to start the regular season and I really shouldn't miss a turn through the rotation. Considering where I was at coming into spring training, to not have to go to the DL, that's a huge feat. The finger feels like a finger. … I'm getting through that injury. It's behind me now.feedback

Mar 17 2017

I don't feel it in any other activity or pitch, just my fastball grip. I'm still day-to-day in terms of how the finger recovers. Even though I had a great day today, I have to make sure all the ligaments recover. I have to make sure I didn't overdo it, make sure I do all my treatment so that, man, I don't have to do this again. Because that was not fun.feedback

Mar 17 2017

When you pitch, you're always right at the edge of your physical limits. You're like a race car driver going 200 miles an hour into a banked turn. You have to push, push, push. But if you push just a little too hard, you crash. You spend your career finding that balance.feedback

Mar 16 2017

It's good to be back to the normal grip. From here on out, I'll obviously be progressing that way and dialing it in to really try to pitch with the fastball again. Now, I feel back.feedback

You always try to throw to the glove, obviously, and hit the bull's eye. But flipping back from like Willie to Sevy and Loby a couple times last year, all of sudden throwing to those guys, their target is lower. They can get those low strikes. But then you start working down more and you don't get those high calls. I don't think they have it dissected enough. There's just too many little things that are still going on, but they're going to get there.feedback

The only way to actually make it more popular is if you were to pause the actual MLB season. That's the only way to have all the best players playing at the same time for their countries. Feb 24 2017

It'll be interesting to see how he sees the game and what he's looking for and where that matches up with my strengths and weaknesses. It's always good to have a different mind critiquing how you go about your business. He's done it for a long time and had success managing a pitching staff. It'll be fun working with him.feedback

Feb 16 2017

I've dealt with aches and pains and strains. This is a whole different ballgame. When you start dealing with a fracture, rest is really your only option to make everything heal. I don't even want to comment on it, because I don't even know what I'm going to be able to do or not. It'd be unfair for me to even project or even talk about that. The hand specialists I've talked to, they've never heard of a stress fracture in that ring knuckle. It's odd that it happened. I just woke up one day and I had a finger sprain.feedback
